The Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E are diametrically opposed in the world of electric SUVs. Both models are aimed at families and business drivers who want to be comfortable, fast and emission-free on the road, but they do so in completely different ways.

Tesla is committed to ultimate efficiency, technology and ease of use. The Model Y is sleekly designed, has an impressive network of Superchargers and excels in electric range and smart software features. It is the rational choice for those who primarily want to drive in a practical and future-oriented way.

With the Mustang Mach-E, Ford opts for emotion, retro design and a sporty driving experience. The iconic Mustang DNA is clearly felt, both in styling and handling. The Mach-E wants to be more than just an electric family car. It's an EV with character and a touch of nostalgia.

Two electric SUVs, each strong on their own terrain. High time to compare them directly.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is an electric SUV with character and tradition

Ford Mustang Mach-E Electric SUV with Character and Tradition

With an electric SUV named Mustang The expectations are sky-high. The name alone conjures up images of roaring V8 engines, endless American highways and iconic muscle cars. Ford knew it had to create something special and that partly succeeded with the Mustang Mach-E.

The Mach-E combines sporty looks with a mature, serious look. The design is clearly inspired by the classic Mustang Coupé: the long bonnet, distinctive rear lights and muscular wheel arches give it a powerful presence on the road. At the same time, it is a modern electric SUV, with clean lines and an aerodynamic profile. When designing, Ford needed to find a balance between the iconic character of the Mustang and the technical and aerodynamic requirements of an electric vehicle.

Inside, Ford surprises with an interior that feels more traditional and high-end than you might expect from an EV. The large central screen is modern and user-friendly, but the materials and finish are not entirely convincing. The all-round visibility is good, and there is more than enough space for passengers and luggage, which also makes it a practical choice for families and long journeys.

The handling and handling are a strong point: the Mach-E steers sharply, feels firm and offers a nice balance between comfort and sportiness. Depending on the version, it offers an impressive electric range, namely a WLTP range that ranges from 440 to over 600 kilometers. In practice, however, the range is between 345 and 450 kilometers, depending on battery capacity (75 or 98 kWh) and driving conditions, so it can compete well with the best in its segment.

In short: The Ford Mustang Mach-E is not a lil of a legendary name, but a worthy electric SUV with character. Ford has cleverly combined its rich Mustang tradition with modern electrical engineering and serious design. A Mustang for a new era without losing its soul.

The Tesla Model Y is the technological all-rounder among electric SUVs

The Tesla Model Y is undoubtedly one of the most talked about electric SUVs in recent years. Where traditional brands often rely on their design and history, Tesla takes a different approach: it's all about technology, efficiency and smart innovations. As a result, the Model Y feels more like a “driving gadget” than a classic car, and that's exactly what appeals to a large group of people.

From the outside, the Model Y looks sleek and minimalistic. The design is clearly derived from the Model 3, but wider and taller. It is not a distinct beauty, but it is functional and recognisable. Inside, Tesla continues that minimalist line: almost all functions are controlled via the large central touchscreen. No buttons, no hustle and bustle, just a sleek, open interior that exudes peace and space. The build quality has now improved significantly compared to the first Tesla models, although the interior remains a bit cool and businesslike. In addition, it must be said that Tesla's reliability as a brand is still not particularly high, as annual consumer surveys show time and time again.

On a practical level, the Model Y scores very well. There is plenty of interior space and, thanks to the smart layout, the luggage compartment is impressively large. The all-round view is good, partly thanks to the large windows and the high seating position.

In terms of performance, the Model Y doesn't disappoint. In a straight line, it's incredibly fast, especially in the Performance version. The chassis is sturdy, the handling is tight and predictable. The car is not as communicative as some traditional brands, but efficient and stable exactly as you would expect from a tech product.

And then there's the charging network: that's perhaps Tesla's biggest asset. The Supercharger network is unrivalled in Europe and ensures that long journeys require hardly any planning. The electric range is more than sufficient for daily use and long trips. For the Tesla Model Y, the WLTP range ranges from approximately 534 to 657 kilometers, depending on the version. In practice, the range usually ranges between approximately 400 and 520 kilometers, with factors such as driving style, outside temperature, speed and use of climate control playing an important role.

In short: the Tesla Model Y is the choice for those who love technology, speed and convenience. It is fast, practical, efficient and benefits from the best charging network in Europe. Not a classic charmer and a little boring, but a smart and fast-paced SUV for the modern era.

Tesla Model Y

  • Minimalist high-tech interior with large touch screen
  • Very fast, especially in Performance version
  • Outstanding Tesla Supercharger Network
  • Lots of interior space and practical layout
  • Focus on technology and efficiency

Ford Mustang Mach-E vs Tesla Model Y driver's heart or tech brain?

The Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y are two all-electric SUVs that each impress in their own way. Nevertheless, they are clearly targeting a different audience. Ford appeals primarily to true car enthusiasts: the Mach-E has the sporty DNA of the legendary Mustang in it. You can feel it in the way he drives: serious, balanced and with a nice dose of character. The interior is more traditional, with clear knobs and an atmosphere that reminds you of classic Mustangs. It is a car for whom driving is still really key.

Tesla takes a completely different approach. The Model Y is not necessarily the driver's car, but it is a technological feat. The interior is sleek and minimalistic, almost futuristic. You control everything from the large central screen, and the Tesla Supercharger network remains unbeatable in terms of convenience and speed. For gadget enthusiasts and people who love innovation, this is a paradise on wheels.

Ultimately, Carvendo opts for the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The Ford simply feels more like a real car than the Tesla and also looks more attractive. Of course, that remains partly a matter of taste, but the Ford's handling and steering behavior have also convinced us. The Mustang Mach-E is less clinical and serious than the Tesla and has a more playful, retro-inspired design. In addition, the strong and iconic name Mustang contributes to the experience. In the Ford, you'll find a clear dose of emotion, something we believe the Tesla lacks.
