The government has made a subsidy available for the purchase of an electric car. With this trade-in scheme you buy an electric car through Carvendo and we help you apply for the subsidy.
On april 17, 2026, the Cabinet announced a new subsidy scheme for the purchase of an electric car. With a budget of 50 million euros, the government aims to make it more attractive for people with low or middle incomes to switch to electric driving. The scheme is part of a broader support package of nearly 1 billion euros.
At Carvendo, you will find a wide range of used electric cars eligible for this subsidy. Naturally, these come standard with a 12-months warranty, 12,000 maintenace-free kilometers, and free home delivery.

It is a trade-in scheme for your petrol or diesel car. These are the requirements to qualify for the subsidy.
The electric car subsidy is intended for private individuals who own a petrol or diesel car and wish to trade it in. The scheme is specifically aimed at private individuals with a low or middle income. In doing so, the government is targeting a group that has found it difficult to make the switch to electric driving until now due to the higher purchase price.
The exact income limits and the subsidy amount per car have yet to be definitively determined. Carvendo will keep this page updated as soon as the government announces more details.
In addition to the new trade-in subsidy, there are more financial benefits when purchasing an electric car in 2026:
MRB-korting elektrische auto
Do you drive a fully electric car? Then you will receive a 30% discount on motor vehicle tax (MRB) up to and including 2028. That easily saves you hundreds of euros per year.
Lower business tax addition
Do you use an electric car for business purposes? In 2026, the taxable benefit is only 18%, compared to 22% for a petrol car. This means a significant tax advantage for entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals.
Lower fuel costs
Electric driving costs on average 3 to 4 times less per kilometer than petrol or diesel. On an annual basis, this can quickly add up to savings of thousands of euros.
The exact application procedure for the new scheme will be announced via the Central Government and RVO.nl. Based on previous subsidy schemes such as the SEPP, this generally works as follows:
1. Choose a suitable second-hand electric car
2. Check if you meet the income requirements
3. Submit the subsidy application via the RVO application portal
4. Receive the subsidy after approval.
