Fortunately, the days when you were afraid that your car would stop working spontaneously along the way seem to be over. Modern cars have become mobile computers full of sensors and screens, software and safety systems but, despite all that technology, they prove to be more reliable than ever. The Consumers Association investigated the experiences of more than 30,000 car owners, and what they showed says a lot about how far the automotive world has come in recent years. Almost all brands score more than a passing grade these days. This is not only a compliment to the manufacturers, but also to the technological progress that has been made over the past decades. At the top of the rankings are familiar names such as Lexus, Suzuki, Subaru and Toyota. Lexus has been the leader when it comes to reliability for years. The reason is simple: Japanese brands build cars with an eye for simplicity, quality and sustainability. Less fuss, more solidity. South Korean brands, such as Kia and Hyundai, have also taken huge steps. Where they used to be seen primarily as affordable alternatives, they are now known for their solid technology and good workmanship.

Not only Japanese and Korean cars are reliable

However, it's not just Japanese and Korean brands that perform well. What really stands out is that brands that used to have a questionable reputation, such as Alfa Romeo, Jaguar and DS, are now scoring well. The technology has become more reliable, the production processes tighter and the electronics are smarter. The image of the unreliable Italian or the stubborn Brit is now really a thing of the past. The premium brands are also doing well: BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz show that luxury and reliability go hand in hand. Of course, minor glitches still occur, but serious problems have become rarer. At the bottom of the list is Land Rover, with a score of 4.8. That seems bad, but numbers can mislead. Sometimes one model or engine variant lowers the average considerably. In addition, Land Rovers are more complex than average, with many advanced comfort and off-road systems. And the more technology, the more chance of an error message. However, this does not mean that every Land Rover is unreliable; rather, due to its technical complexity, the brand is more sensitive to electronic failures.

Overall, cars are better than ever

The best insight from the study is that, in general, cars are better than ever. Whether you're driving a compact city car or a luxury SUV, the chances of breaking down on the road are slim. Where you used to take “risk brands” into account, now it's mainly about what suits you: the type of car, your driving style, maintenance and use. Manufacturers are simply building better, software issues can be resolved remotely, and warranty periods are longer than ever. This gives buyers much more freedom. You no longer have to choose a brand solely “because it will never break”. Almost every brand now provides reliable cars, so you can mainly look at comfort, design, performance and budget. And that is exactly what Carvendo helps you with.

Carvendo knows which car is reliable

At Carvendo, we look beyond just the outside of a car. We know which brands are really solid, which motors are better to avoid and which versions are known for their reliability. We combine current data, such as that from the Consumers Association, with years of practical experience from dealers, technicians and customers. This way, we can advise honestly and objectively, without sales pitch. In addition, we work with Hilterman Lease and Independer, so that we can not only arrange the right car, but also the right financing and insurance. That way, you know exactly where you stand, with no surprises afterwards. Our mission is simple: we want every customer to buy with confidence and enjoy driving.

Today's cars are smarter, more economical and more reliable than ever. But making the right choice still requires good advice. At Carvendo, we do this with passion and knowledge, so that you can soon hit the road with peace of mind in a car that suits you perfectly.
