The Tesla Model Y is the technological all-rounder among electric SUVs
The Tesla Model Y is undoubtedly one of the most talked about electric SUVs in recent years. Where traditional brands often rely on their design and history, Tesla takes a different approach: it's all about technology, efficiency and smart innovations. As a result, the Model Y feels more like a “driving gadget” than a classic car, and that's exactly what appeals to a large group of people.
From the outside, the Model Y looks sleek and minimalistic. The design is clearly derived from the Model 3, but wider and taller. It is not a distinct beauty, but it is functional and recognisable. Inside, Tesla continues that minimalist line: almost all functions are controlled via the large central touchscreen. No buttons, no hustle and bustle, just a sleek, open interior that exudes peace and space. The build quality has now improved significantly compared to the first Tesla models, although the interior remains a bit cool and businesslike. In addition, it must be said that Tesla's reliability as a brand is still not particularly high, as annual consumer surveys show time and time again.
On a practical level, the Model Y scores very well. There is plenty of interior space and, thanks to the smart layout, the luggage compartment is impressively large. The all-round view is good, partly thanks to the large windows and the high seating position.
In terms of performance, the Model Y doesn't disappoint. In a straight line, it's incredibly fast, especially in the Performance version. The chassis is sturdy, the handling is tight and predictable. The car is not as communicative as some traditional brands, but efficient and stable exactly as you would expect from a tech product.
And then there's the charging network: that's perhaps Tesla's biggest asset. The Supercharger network is unrivalled in Europe and ensures that long journeys require hardly any planning. The electric range is more than sufficient for daily use and long trips. For the Tesla Model Y, the WLTP range ranges from approximately 534 to 657 kilometers, depending on the version. In practice, the range usually ranges between approximately 400 and 520 kilometers, with factors such as driving style, outside temperature, speed and use of climate control playing an important role.
In short: the Tesla Model Y is the choice for those who love technology, speed and convenience. It is fast, practical, efficient and benefits from the best charging network in Europe. Not a classic charmer and a little boring, but a smart and fast-paced SUV for the modern era.
